The Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Blu-ray Review

Finally, after a highly anticipated waiting period, the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Blu-ray is available for us rabid Tolkien fans of Middle-earth! If there was ever a trilogy just begging to be upgraded to Blu-ray it would have to be the Lord of the Rings trilogy hands down. The brilliant cinematography of Peter Jackson's films are nothing short of breathtakingly spectacular, and that is without Blu-ray! Viewing them in this fantastic technology is simply a treat that is almost too good to be true.

Why Is the Lord of the Rings Extended Trilogy So Sought After?

With the extended versions of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings movies, comes the greatest trilogy in film history, bar-none. A dearly beloved tale of gutsy determination, undeniable perseverance, undying friendship and eternal love, the Lord of the Rings resonates, in one way or another, with the imagination of the human spirit... and that is what has made it an instant classic since the days the brilliant tale-weaving, high-fantasy, words of J.R.R. Tolkien were published back in 1954. To experience the brilliance of J.R.R. Tolkien's magic story-telling brought to life with the wizardry of Peter Jackson's cinematography, is a wonder to behold, and with the added Blu-ray, it is a fascinating technological delight for the senses! I grew up reading Tolkien and was absolutely blown away when these epics hit the big screen. To now be able to own the Lord of the Rings Blu-ray extended edition is something that absolutely thrills me.

The Lord of the Rings extended edition gives a much fuller element to the entire unfolding of the story by expanding the characters a lot more. After viewing the extended version you will wonder how you were ever even satisfied with the theatrical editions. The characters are developed to such a greater degree where you get to know their background, their "stories", or who they are, and many other scenes that bring such fullness and completeness that you just don't get from the original non-extended versions. After viewing the extended version the story just makes so much more sense. Poor Peter Jackson... he must have fought through anxiety attacks, as he had to cut so many shots out of the films in order for them to fit onto the theatres when they were first released.

The first movie, "The Fellowship of the Ring" has an additional thirty minutes of extra footage included and brings this film to a close after three-an-a-half hours. The second movie, "The Two Towers" is extended by 43 minutes and concludes after 3 hours and 42 minutes. The last and "grand finale" movie, "The Return of the King" is stretched by a mind-boggling fifty minutes and keeps one, literally, spell-bound in their seats for a senses-tingling ending to the much-loved Tolkien trilogy after 4 hours and 11 minutes! Adding it all up you have eleven hours of masterfully created entertainment pleasure and in Blu-ray to boot! This is by no stretch of the imagination and with no other even close competition the greatest trilogy of all time.

But these are the types of epics that you get lost in, and were they to be 5 or 6 hours long, they would still end too quickly and we would be wishing for extended versions of them!

Giving this awe-inspiring trilogy 5 out of 5 stars feels like I am doing it an injustice in some form... it IS simply THAT good!

Here are a few answers to questions that people are asking about the Lord of the Rings extended Blu-ray:

Movie Review: Green Lantern Hits a Red Light

Okay, first things first. I don't like watching films in 3D and the Green Lantern isn't particularly a preferred superhero of mine. Having said that I won't look forward to a second installment of this franchise but won't mind watching it just for the heck of it, but I still don't think highly of 3D.

Green Lantern Story

Martin Campbell, the man who successfully overhauled the James Bond franchise on two occasions (Golden Eye and Casino Royale) looked like the perfect choice to direct Green Lantern but even with an estimated budget of over $150 million this film has precious little to offer. Ryan Reynolds plays Hal Jordan, a test pilot par excellence who comes in contact with a green ring that imparts great powers and makes him a superhero that no evil can escape.

Reynolds brings a certain level of impish charm to the Jordan / Green Lantern character but unlike an Ironman where the script concentrated on exploring Tony Stark more than anything else, Green Lantern wastes fool proofing everything to the level of boredom. The 'yellow energy of fear', the 'emerald energy of willpower' and other such there is a lot of mumbo-jumbo that one expects in a film based on a comic book character but all this talk doesn't really add anything great to the proceedings.

While Jordan tries to figure out what to do with his new mean green steak, far away in the universe in a place called Sector 2814, where millions of years before the Earth was formed The Guardians of the Universe created an evil fighting force called Green Lantern Corps, there is commotion. Their meanest fighter Abin Sur (Temuera Morrison), the one who died and his ring chose Jordan, was killed by Parallax, a former Lantern, who now wants to destroy all the sectors of the universe. The ring, which never makes a mistake in choosing its bearer, bestows Jordan with superhuman powers and works on the premise that if not fearless or responsible, he has it in him to transform; this process of self-realization is only fleetingly explored. It looks as if Reynolds and his leading man good looks are doing the ring a favor and Jordan never really bothers beyond a point. Finally Jordan finds his calling and urges Sinestro (Mark Strong), a Lantern to help him fight Parallax. But Sinestro refuses him as he believes that no human can defeat the bearer of the yellow energy of fear. Finally when Jordan proves him wrong Sinestro, accepts him into the brotherhood.

Final Words on Green Lantern

There is a lot of back-story that Campbell tries to pack in but the manner in which it unfolds doesn't make you want to know more. You are interested in seeing the hero overcome his fears but Reynolds is so self-satisfied that he suddenly decides its time and everything falls into place. Green Lantern is one of the very few superhero tales where the power is shared by a bunch of people and rest assured there will a couple of more sequels where, hopefully, far more interesting sidekicks and partners in crime will fill the screen time.

And also that viewing a film in 3D would become a better experience! There is no denying that more and more films would be released in 3D but something needs to be done about the manner in which the audience is forced to watch it.

Green Lantern Rating: 2/5

Green Lantern Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, Tim Robbins

Green Lantern Story by: Greg Berlanti, Michael Green, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Goldenberg

External RF Modulator: Make Your Old TV Come Alive With It

So you are all set to enter the virtual world of tremendous excitement with your newly bought game machine. Right? But what if your old television does not support S-Video or RCA input; all it has is only a coaxial cable input at the back? How then will you connect your game machine to your television?

You need an external RF modulator for the purpose. What's an external RF modulator? Well, it is a device to convert the multiple audio and video outputs of the latest media machines - DVD players, gaming devices - to a single coaxial input to be used by a television that has no multiple input jacks.

RF, or Radio Frequency, modulators are available in the range of 10 to 40 dollars. They have either multiple inputs with switching ability or single inputs for one-to-one connectivity. So now there is a hope for your old television. New toys after all can be connected to it.

An RF modulator does make it possible for the latest equipment to run on your old television. However, the demodulation of the television by the external RF modulator results in poor picture quality. In fact, with the growing popularity of high-def, digital televisions, RF modulators are losing their utility and becoming obsolete. But then, who recommended an RF modulator for such a television? They come into picture only when you have an old television.

A multi channel external RF modulator can also be used with DVD players. Apart from allowing your DVD player to work on your television, it also enables you to run a VCR and such other devices as DVR, or Apple TV simultaneously, on the same television. All the devices use different frequencies or channels and the outputs are fed into the audio/video inputs of the modulator. Whenever you tune your television to the channel to which you have set your DVD player, it will access only the DVD. And whatever the device you are tuned in broadcasts, appears on your television screen. When you are using a CATV system, certain frequencies have to be blocked by the notch filters and the high and low passes. Otherwise, the device in use on the proper channel will not be able to provide a clear signal.

An audio RF modulator is also available on the market. They find frequent use in cars having FM radios and CD players. Here too the sound quality is not very good and many a time frequency consistency may be disturbed.

Although with the latest audio and video systems, external RF modulator is losing relevance, yet it still has a use with our DVD players. So, bring one and hook up to your television to enjoy your favorite movies.

American Psycho Film Review

American Psycho is a 2000 thriller film. It stars Christian Bale, Willem Dafoe, Reese Witherspoon, Samantha Mathis, and Chloe Sevigny. The story is by Bret Easton Ellis. The director is Mary Harron.

The story centers around a Wall Street tycoon named Patrick Bateman. Bateman is a conformist and a perfectionist. He also has a side to him that nobody knows about. At night, he sometimes seeks the company of prostitutes. Bateman has a lust for blood and will kill anybody he feels like killing. He will sometimes kill coworkers simply because they have a better-looking business card than he does. His desire for blood soon slips over into his days and he begins to lose control of his "mask of sanity".

Although many would classify this film as a typical horror movie, I believe it is so much more. Of course it has the makings of one with all the blood and violence, but it also has the psychological aspect. We get to experience what Patrick Bateman is thinking and going through. We see his confusion with what is right and what is wrong. The audience gains an understanding and almost a sympathy for Bateman as he begins to realize what he has done.

One thing I noticed even before I saw the film is the connection between the names of fictional serial killer Norman Bates of Hitchcock's horror classic Psycho and Patrick Bateman of this film, American Psycho. Bates and Bateman, Psycho and American Psycho. Plus, Norman Bates was clearly based on murderer Ed Gein in the 1950's. Likewise, Patrick Bateman is obsessed with well-known murderers, including Gein. He even quotes him in a scene in the middle of the film, catching his friends completely off guard by saying it right out of the blue.

Another feature that caught my eye was Bateman's obsession with fitting in and having the best and most expensive possessions of all his friends. His obsession with conformance may have been what drove him to be so psychologically confused and, somehow, enhanced his blood lust. Bateman was so into being like who he thought his friends were, that he lost track of who he really was. He surrounded himself with all these things that weren't really him at all and it drove him over the edge.

To wrap, American Psycho is a great horror thriller that those who seek a psychological thriller will, I believe, enjoy this film very much!

Geordie Shore Take the Party to Magaluf!

The Geordies leave their beloved Newcastle behind to give the Geordie lifestyle an exotic twist.

The onset of summer sees MTV's Geordie Shore unleash the cast on an unsuspecting holiday hotspot...

They'll be swapping the grey, industrial skyline of Newcastle and transferring their business to Magaluf, the ideal place to extend their party, and our Geordies are in there like swim-wear!

So, it's Magaluf vs Geordies, who emerges the winner? Us! They're set to film at least two summer-specials over in the Spanish party-place. Presumably, these episodes will mirror the goings-on witnessed in their hugely popular American twin Jersey Shore, it remains to be seen whether viewers can expect to find themselves confronted with an even more unsavory adaptation of the lifestyle, or whether they'll take heed of the numerous concerned locals who have deemed the show to convey Geordies in a derogatory fashion.

Amongst numerous other concerned locals, one incensed viewer commented "this show must be removed from tv...... its a disgrace to all the good hard working Geordies! And as for their parents, well! They want to be embarrassed to think they gave birth to them and need to look at their parenting skills!"

Despite the critics however, Geordie Shore's debut showing smashed MTV's previous record, with 320,000 viewers. Their previous highest being 255,000.

Images have surfaced displaying the troupe of Charlote, Gary, Greg, Holly, James, Jay, Sophie and Vicky wandering around the seaside locale.

The photos suggest the Geordies have taken to their new surroundings swimmingly, and all appear to be in smiles, including Holly, who still appears to be on the outskirts.

So, what can we expect to see?

Magaluf is one of Spain's most notorious holiday destinations, boasting an array of boozy bars, sandy beaches and epic nightclubs.

The coastal resort's nightlife attracts not only masses of party-loving people, but some of its nightclubs, like BCM, enjoy the privilege of having the world's most talented DJs perform there.

Within such a scene it's inevitable that our Geordies will encounter personalities equally as wild as theirs, but will that mean new friendships or fierce rivalries? We can't wait to find out!

However, while we're sure there will undoubtedly be the usual occurrences of saucy, drunken escapades, it's still no free-ride! The group will have to muck-in at a popular souvenir shop, much like the Jersey Shore gang earn their keep on the New Jersey shoreline.

Film Review - Delhi Belly The Movie

Released on July 1, Delhi belly is an Indian comedy film shot in English with a little Hindi. It is directed by Abhinay Deo, the son of veteran actors Ramesh and Seema Deo. He is a ad-film maker turned director and has shown a great piece of direction in form of "Delhi Belly".

The Review:

Delhi Belly revolves around Three room-mates, Tashi Dorjee Lhatoo (Imran Khan), Nitin Berry (Kunaal Roy Kapur) and Arup (Vir Das) leading an unkempt and debt-ridden life. Delhi belly has been in news as it is full of adult language, catchy songs and unconventional sex shows. There are sparks of humour and vulger scences throughout the film and this is what makes it a worth watch. I bet that you will not face any boredom while watching this movie.

The film start's with Sonia's arrival into the city where she meets Vladimir Dragonsky and agrees to deliver a packet on behalf of him to the address mentioned by him. Sonia hands over the packet to Tashi who in turn asks Arup to deliver it for him. Arup then hands the packet to Nitin for delivery, But Nitin forgets to do so as he is experiencing 'Delhi Belly' ( stomach issues).

Thus the Package keeps floating around and is finally handed to the recipient, a gangster named Somayajulu by Arup. Apart from the package, Arup also has to deliver another package which contains Nitin's stool sample to Nitin's Doctor. He mixes up the two which makes Somayajulu furious and he starts the investigation by interrogating Vladimir. The film revolves around the chaos created by the interchanging of the packets.

In the meanwhile, Tashi gets attracted towards menaka, a journalist and has to incur the wrath of her ex-husband Rajiv. He starts comtemplating whether he really wants to marry sonia. Here, Vladimir informs Somayajulu that the mix-up must have been caused by Sonia as she didn't know what she was carrying in the package. Somayajulu then calls sonia and tells her about the mix-up of the packets and also asks her to give the address of the person who was to deliver the packets. Somayajulu then goes to the address and finds Arup and makes him stand on the stool whilst his neck is tied with a tie to the ceiling. Tashi arrives at the apartment in the meanwhile to find Arup being tied to the ceiling. On interrogating Tashi, Somayajulu discovers the location of his packets.

Nitin gets the packets from the doctor's clinic and Somayajulu snatches it from him to examine the 30 diamonds which are ought to be there in the packet. After finding them safe, he orders his men to kill all the three friends, Tashi, Arup and Nitin. In the meanwhile, the ceiling to which Arup is tied falls down and injures Somayajulu and his men. Tashi, Arup and nitin escape them along with the diamonds and celebrate their good fortune. They sell the diamonds to a local jewellery shop owner the very next day. But to their dismay and bad luck, Somayajulu kidnaps Sonia and threatens to kill her if they do not hand over the diamonds to him. The trio, feeling disgusted, goes to get the diamonds from the jewellery shop owner, only to be told that they will have to pay him double.

The trio starts worrying when tashi comes up with a plan. Nitin, Arup, Tashi and Menaka disguise themselves in burqa and go to the jewellery shop. They con the owner, take back their diamonds and return his money. Then they go to the hotel where somayajulu has held Sonia. In the meanwhile police also reach there following tashi's car as they chase him for robbing the jewellery store. The trio hands over the diamonds to Somayajulu and tell him to leave sonia. Police enters the room by then and firing takes place in which only Tashi, Nitin, Arup and sonia survive. Tashi then chooses Menaka over Sonia but Menaka refuses to go with him. Later, When Menaka comes over to Tashi's place to hand over his belongings, Tashi jumps over her car in through the open Window and Kisses her hard.

Cast of the film:-

Imran Khan as Tashi Dorji Lhatoo.
Kunal Kapur Roy as Nitin Berry.
Vir Das as Arup.
Poorna Jagganathan as Menaka.
Shenaz Treasurywala as Sonia.
Vijay Raj as Somayajulu.
Kim Bodnia as Vladamir Dragunsky.
Aamir Khan in an Item song ("I hate you, like I love you").

Why Kids Love Winnie the Pooh

When looking for a fun, classic, timeless theme for your next kids party, consider Winnie the Pooh. Kids love Pooh Bear and the gang from 100 Acres Wood. Generation after generation has fallen in love with the golden bear with his insatiable craving for honey crafted by the pen of A. A. Milne.

It's easy to see why kids love Winnie the Pooh...

- The characters are well-written, three dimensional, and identifiable. They're all so loveable and huggable and have their own unique personalities.

- The world of 100 Acres Wood is completely non-threatening. Everyone lives in peace and harmony and are respectful of each other.

- The cast of characters are fun and happy and make you happy.

- Pooh and friends are such children themselves. Their naivety is charming and it adds depth to their friendships and camaraderie.

- There's a collective innocence to the residents of 100 Acres Woods. Problems are easy to solve and nothing is too bad to overcome or deal with.

- Look at Winnie the Pooh, or Pooh Bear to his friends. His one goal in life is to fill his rumblee tumblee with as much honey as he can possibly consume. He's loyal to the end and loves his friends.

- Eeyore is a popular and favorite character. The little donkey is often gloomy and down, but it's mostly because he keeps losing his tail. He relies on his friends to keep him from getting lost and finding the right direction.

- Tigger is a bouncy, gleeful, over-caffeinated tiger-like creature who makes everyone laugh with his buoyant personality that literally bowls you over. The most wonderful thing about Tigger is he's the only one, as the story clearly says. We all love Tigger's energy and enthusiasm.

- Piglet may be a little guy, but he's one of the bravest animals in 100 Acres Woods. He lives for adventures with his friend Pooh and we can't get enough of them together. His childish love of balloons and blowing dandelions makes kids smile and gives adults a glimpse back at precious memories.

- While Rabbit thinks he's the smartest of the bunch-and tells everyone-he's just as lovable as the rest of the crew. He's focused and organized and watches out for his friends. We could all use a Rabbit in our lives.

- Kanga and Roo represent the motherly care and love that children of all ages appreciate. Kanga's warm personality makes kids want to crawl into the pouch with Roo.

- Christopher Robin is the universal kid. He's smart, happy, and has an amazing imagination. Kids identify with his connection with his menagerie of stuffed with fluff friends.

- Owl's the intellectual that fills in all the details of what's going on and what might happen. He has the answer to every question and the cleverest way to get out of any situation. All kids want to be as smart as Owl.

The humor and innocence of Winnie the Pooh and his friends keeps kids coming generation after generation to the imagination of 100 Acres Wood. For kids, it's something to relate to and for adults, it's a lovely walk down childhood memory lane.
