Shahrukh Khan - The Last of the Great Bollywood Actors

Shahrukh Khan, who at the moment is Bollywood no.1 actor was born on November 2, 1965 in Talwar Elderly Care New Delhi. Sharukh's father's is called Taj Mohammed Khan and his mother's title is Lateef Fatima. Sharukh's father was in transports business and his mother was a social worker and she was also a top class justice of the peace. Shahrukh Khan aslo has a sister, Shehnaz. Sharukh married in 1991 to Gauri Khan and now they've two children: Aryan Khan and Suhana Khan.

He went to school in St Columba's School. He has got an Honours Degree in Financial aspects from Hasan Raj College Delhi. After that he went for a Masters Degree in Mass Communications at Jamia Millia Islamia College.

Sharukh started first from television serials. He acted in a couple of serials like the drama serial Fauji in which he acted in the role of Abhimanyu Rai. He also acted in the serial Circus, which revolved around the lives of circus entertainers. After the death of his parents he moved to Mumbai. This is where he acted in his first movie Deewana. Shahrukh khan was praised for his roles in the movies "Darr" and Baazigar". In both these movies he got the role of a villain. His biggest break came with his role in the movie "Dilwale dulhania le jayenge' HE played a romantic role in this movie opposite Kajol. This movie broke some records and set new standards for good movies in Bollywood. This was also the beginning of his superstar status. After his big success he regularly worked with big names in bollywood film industry.

Together with Juhi Chawla, Shahrukh khan also started "Dreams Limitless", film Production Company. The first two films they produced were big box office flops. But his third movie Chalte Chalte did well at the cinemas. In 2004 Shahrukh khan produced another movie, Main hoon na. He did this under the banner of another company he owns, Chillie entertainment. Main hoon na also did well. Paheli was forwarded for an Oscar but did not win any awards. With his friend Karan Johar he did another co-production, But that film did not do well at the box office. Till now he has acted in almost 60 films.

Sharukh is one of the few people in Bollywood who doesn't has any disputes. He always tries to keep himself away from controversies with other actors. Every actress in Bollywood wants to act in a movie with Shahrukh khan ones in their career. He is also very popular with NRI's. He is so popular that at the moment no other actor can compare him to Shahrukh khan. Shahrukh khan seems not to be slowing down and is planning to go even further.

Oscar Nominated Movies in Bollywood

Bollywood refers to one of the film industries of India, where many movies in Hindi are made. The fame of producing the highest number of films in India goes to Bollywood. Among the most popular movies in Bollywood, some are so rich in their content that they have competed with other foreign language films in the category of Best Foreign language Film in Academy Awards.

Mother India is considered to be one of the most admired movies in Bollywood. The story of this film is penned by Mehboob Khan and is a remake of his 1940 film Aurat. The film depicting the social set up of old India has Nargis Dutt and Sunil Dutt, playing the main characters in the film. A poor woman in rural India, in spite of all the hardships in life, holds on to good principles and values. Even then she murders her own son, at the end, in order to keep her promise given to the landlord. The film was chosen as one of the five Best Foreign language films at Oscars in the year 1958. Mother India is the representation of India after Independence and became the first Indian film to compete at the Oscars.

Salaam Bombay! became the second film to be chosen from India at the Oscars among other movies in Bollywood. Released in the year 1988, this film depicted the lives of many street children living in Bombay (now Mumbai). The movie has received numerous awards in many national and international film festivals. Some of the most revered awards, received by this Mira Nair film are Golden Camera Award at the Cannes Film Festival, National Film Award for Best Feature Film and Montreal World Film Festival.

Lagaan, starring Amir Khan, India's one of the most leading actors, became the third entry into Oscars. Released in the year 2001, the film is set up in the background of Victorian era, where British ruled the Indian subcontinent. Lagaan tells the story of a village, which unites to fight against the increase in taxation by the British Government. The film directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, with a budget of 250 million, also had some of the British actors.

Water, directed by Deepa Mehta, an Indian-born woman director, is the fourth film to be nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars. With the backdrop of India of 1938, the movie explores lives of many widows in Varanasi. The film, which started off many controversies, starred many talented Indian actors and actresses like Liza Ray, Vinay Pathak, Raghubir Yadav and John Abraham.

Rang De Basanti, by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, had the contemporary India portrayed through the characters of young college going students. The film brings forth the evolution of these students from being passive to corrupt social system to changing the rules by giving their lives. The film became a huge influence on young Indians, who were disappointed with the corrupt Government. This film got nominated at the Oscars after competing with other movies in Bollywood.

Finding New Horizons in Bollywood - Ajay Devgan

Ajay Devgan, a two-time National award winner is one of the finest acting talents of Indian cinema. Born as Vishal Devgan, Ajay started off his film career with Phool Aur Kaante in an action-oriented role unlike many other actors of his time. He grew popular as an action hero with the first few films, which were huge successes at the box office, and gradually started experimenting with different genres. It was then he accepted the opportunity to act in Ishq, in a comedy role, opposite to Kajol. In addition to Ishq, the Ajay-Kajol pair can be seen in Pyar To Hona Hi Tha, one of the biggest success of the year 1998.

First National Award

It was in 1998 that he signed Zakhm, a film by Mahesh Bhatt, which fetched him the first National Film Award for Best Actor, in which he essayed a serious role. The 1992 riots in India was the backdrop of this film and he acted with Sonali Bendre, Pooja Bhatt and Nagarjuna. Following this achievement, Ajay Devgan worked with many noted filmmakers of Bollywood such as Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Mani Ratnam in Yuva and Ram Gopal Varma in Company and Bhoot, in the coming years.

Second National Award

As he continued experimenting with different roles, in the year 2002, Rajkumar Santhoshi signed him for the biopic, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, to essay the character of Bhagat Singh. With this critically acclaimed film, he received his second National Award for Best Actor along with the Filmfare Critics Award.

Other Movies

In a span of two decades, Ajay has acted in more than hundred films. Kaal and Khakee are two of the films in which he was seen in a negative character, for which he got nominated in the Best Villain Award category. His performance was also acclaimed in many movies - Yuva, Golmaal, and Raincoat being a few of them. Raincoat was an off-beat film, acted along with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Omkara, Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge, Gangaajal, Rajneeti, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai and Zameen are Ajay's other critically acclaimed films.

As Producer and Director

In the year 2000, he committed only two films - Deewane and Raju Chacha, of which the latter saw him as a producer. Although the film did not perform well, it featured the off-screen couple of Ajay and Kajol once again. Exploring the new realms of Bollywood, he wore the director's hat for the first time with U, Me Aur Hum (2008), which he also produced and acted in. Third production was in 2009 with the film All The Best: The Fun Begins. Ajay Devgan can be seen in action in the upcoming film Singham, Tezz and Power.
